See Jupiter through an 8″ f/5 GSO Newtonian telescope with a QHY5-II-m camera

I recently bought a QHY5-II-M camera since I am currently facing USB connectivity problems with my current DMK31 from “The Image Source” on my new notebook (update: I was unfortunately not able to get it working).

I tested the new QHY5-II-M camera on Jupiter with my 8″ GSO f/5 (f=1000mm) Newtonian telescope. I took some footage without and with a 2x barlow lens.

One clear night in the mountains

This article is about one clear and cold night in the alps. – The Alps are a good place for watching the stars. On a long weekend in October the weather forecast was very good. So hiking was the best option for this weekend. The starting point was in the mountains not far from Bludenz, a city in Austria. The alpine huts (also the Totalphut) were already closed. So the tent was the only option. One night the tent was setup not far from the Schesaplana.

Star-gazing at Lake Garda at Appartamenti Agrituristici Agribaldo

Around new moon in September 2014 I visited Appartamenti Agrituristici Agribaldo (https://www.agribaldo.it) close to Lake Garda for a few days and nights.

They offer an apartment with kitchen, bath, bedroom, garden and a wide free area around the building for up to 4 persons for a fair price. But the most important thing is that is is pretty dark there. The good thing is that is is not far away from Lake Garda and depending on the weather you can decide if you want to spend your holiday at night watching the sky – or – at day with e.g. hiking, cycling or climbing.

The Great Orion Nebula – A second try

Actually this motif – the Great Orion Nebula (M42) – was one of the first nebula I have ever tried since starting with astrophotography. I was already quite satisfied with the first result (maybe because I didn’t know better :)). Tonight I decided to give it another try. Personally I think it is much better than the last one. The image is also available in full resolution.
