Day and Night on La Palma – The highlights from my last La Palma holiday

On my last La Palma holiday I did lots of experiments with my X-T1 camera. This time I was especially looking into time-lapsing. The result is “Day and Night on La Palma” – a 5 minute video about this beautiful island. To me, La Palma is the perfect place for doing this kind of videos. In this short video I want to show the highlights of my last holiday. Lots of stars, clouds and sunsets… 🙂 In order to make this video I visited many different places of the island. Some of them were Roque de Los Muchachos, Mirador del Jable, Mirador del Time and Pico Birigoyo. The music title “Worlds” has been composed by Jacob Tyler. I found it on www.soundcloud.com. I hope you enjoy the video 🙂

Fujifilm X-T1 2″ Telescope adapter

In this article I write about my experience with the Fujifilm X-T1 2″ Telescope adapter from telescopeadapters.com. Some time ago I bought the Fujifilm X-T1 camera. It didn’t last quite long – then I wanted to connect it to my telescope 🙂 At first it was quite hard to find a suitable adapter. After searching the web I finally found https://www.telescopeadapters.com/.

They offer an adapter to connect the X-T1 to an 2″ focuser. However, as always I was not sure if this thing is really going to work and if everything fits together. Still, it was worth a try and so I placed an order.

In short I can say that it works quite well.

Below are some photos of the setup:

Plane crosses sun seen through telescope!

After a long winter, today the sun came out and a little bit of spring seemed to arrive. I did not let this chance pass and dug out my telescope to do some sun observations. At this point I want to put a reminder:

warning

Never look into the sun without an appropriate solar filter!

Beside some visual observations I also had the plan to record some videos with my Fujifilm X-T1 camera (+adapter) to give others an impression of how the sun looks like through an 8″ Newton telescope with a solar filter. Since I am living close to an entry lane I had the luck to capture a plane flying right through my field of view! Luckily the camera was set to recording at this moment 🙂

Sunset time-lapse through my 8″ f/5 GSO Newton Telescope

For the first time I tried to record a short time-lapse of the sunset through my 8″ GSO Newton telescope using my Fujifilm X-T1 camera. Not very exciting… but still nice to see the sun going down behind the clouds. The telescope was mounted on an EQ6 Syntrek with tracking enabled. In the end I just disabled the tracking mode.

Clear skies!

Fujifilm X-T1 Car Adapter

This article is about creating a 12V car adapter for the Fujifilm X-T1 camera for longtime-exposures and time-lapses. – Recently I started to record a time-lapse with my Fujifilm X-T1. Everything was prepared. Then, after quite some time I went back to the camera to check the result. Bad news, the battery died in the meantime and the time-lapse was not completed. In order to address this problem I thought about having a different power supply for my X-T1. More precisely I thought about hooking the camera up to the 12V vehicle power or directly to a 12V car battery.

The solution turned out to be quite simple and inexpensive. All you need is:

  1. A variable DC-DC Buck Converter
  2. An adapter which replaces the camera battery
  3. A 12V car plug and some cable

Lets start…
